Yes Dear - crew profile
captain: martin cameron (rsa)
Martin was born into a family of farmers in brutally hot, humid and dry locations in South Africa. At a tender age he learned how to drive a tractor, make use of available resources, observe, love and respect nature. You would also find him in the farm shed, busy with his new construction project, but with the ocean less than an hour away, there was always a yearning to reunite with Mother Aqua. At Captain and chef aboard 5-cabin crewed yacht, Yes Dearage 16, that distance grew when his family moved inland to the capital, Pretoria, for a better education and opportunities for the children. After school he became a sheet metal worker apprentice for a one-of-its-kind electro-magnetic and radio frequency shielding company for 5 years. Moving up the ranks, he started working all over the country and has since then, given into the urge to keep on travelling, with an unquenchable thirst for adventure and exploration.

When the overwhelming idea of becoming a sailing yacht captain struck, it all made sense. Every experience was just education to become exactly that. He quickly gave everything away, expect his boy, a German Shepherd canine and the dog's pick-up truck, who is looking after his parents. He went to sailing school to obtain a Yachtmaster Ocean ticket and soon after left on a catamaran delivery to the Caribbean. He gained experience on bigger classic sailing and even bigger luxury power yachts, but that was never the dream. It had to be smaller and more intimate.

He was in love with his wife the moment he heard her name... Cari-Mari. "If we are on the right course in our lives, we will meet along the way" he always said. Together they moved to the tropical diving-fishing hot spot of South Africa, Sodwana Bay, the world's most southern reef, where they started doing freelance fishing day charters together as skipper and cook, whilst furthering their education in diving. The Caribbean was calling and they landed on a catamaran that was doing weekly charters between St Martin, St Barthelemy and Anguilla.

chef/first mate: cari-mari cameron (rsa)
Born and raised on a smallholding in the extremely dryk, Far North of South Africa, travelling and camping endlessly with her family, Cari-Mari connected to the beautiful and magical wonders of nature, which inspired her creativity from a young age. She was found either in her dad's workshop or mother's studio or kitchen, creating jewellery, clothes, functional-art and meals for family and friends. Her mother involved all 4 siblings to do their part in preparation and hosting of all the fancy dress, dance and dinner parties.

She graduated from the Tshwane University of Technology, Pretoria, with a B Tech degree in Jewellery design and manufacturing (Cum Laude), whilst selling her jewellery at the State Theatre Art Gallery, designed and manufactured her own clothing range and worked as an apprentice chef at HMM Catering part-time for 7 years. She started her own jewellery design and manufacturing company, Foreverbright, and was awarded 30 national and international jewellery design awards. Her latest: Overall winner, PlatAfrica Awards 2014. Cari-Mari was interviewed by numerous magazines, newspapers and TV programs internationally. She appeared as guest speaker at design seminars and practical workshops and was invited to appear as art judge and consultant, whilst being part-time lecturer in design at universities.

When she followed her heart to do her design work from the beach, close to her love, the ocean, she met her true love. Martin walked in, swept her off her feet and they relocated very close to the ocean and now on top of it. With all her experience in design and entertainment, her passion is not exclusive to food, but rather hosting in style, glamour and beauty, with the most pleasurable things in life - mouth watering food in pristine locations and living only for love of nature, love of line... love of God.
